Ancillary Task - Drafts - Magazine front cover

The beginning to creating the film magazine. I just wanted to do a complete draft which had no meaning just had all of my ideas down on it. So this is the outcome. It has the title on a slant and in red, the issue number and date next to it, also in red. So draft ideas of what could also be inside the magazine. It has the film reel down the bottom where I want to put some images of backstage filming in. And it has a big white background where I want to main image to go. At the moment between Shannon and I, there is a debate about what should be the main image. Personally I feel it should be a scene of the movie, however Shannon wants to have an images of just the model. The only problem I have with this is, they won't be able to recognise  its a horror and what's it's about (the film.)

In this one I have tried to add in the picture down the bottom. I feel they have come out really well, and work, giving the magazine a professional film look.

This is the third draft of our magazine front cover.  We have changed the title to something more suitable and the way it is situated on the page, because this looks more professional. We have changed the font to something more "scary". Also have also changed the colour of the issue number and date. This is because we don't want this to be our main focus, so it needs to blend into the background slightly. This is all done on photo shop, so it will be easy to add the background image in last, just change the layers. As well on this draft, we have added in a bar code, to make it professional and a price, which we will probably change, as is quite expensive and quite bold.

This is the fourth draft of our front cover and we have changed the font again. The last one didn't give off the right impression ( the one we were hoping for) and this one works a lot better. We have also changed the title to make it bolder, however I don't know if it is too big know. It like how the different letters are different sizes, however I think over all it is too big.  We have also changed the placing of the issue number, however it should go down by the bar code and be smaller font, so we will change that.

We have moved the bar code and the price to the top of the magazine, to make it more discrete. We have also tried the font in red to see what it would look like. I prefer the bar code up the top however I am not sure about the font in red, we shall see what becomes of it. It complements the red, however we will need to add in the background image to see if it stands out enough. We have also moved the date and issue number to under the title. It works however it  is quite bold there, which isn't a positive nor is it a negative.

 Here we have added in the background image and added in a black puff with red writing. The background image looks really good, however personally it looks very 2D and not professional. The puff doesn't work because it is completely the wrong shape.

 We tried different shapes for the puffs, some being;

None of these are the correct shape we were looking for. The one underneath was perfect. We created it by the shapes on photo shop.
Here we have added in the puff, it looks really good because it compliments all the colours used, white red black. I also like how it is slightly covering the title. Makes the front cover look more 3D.  In this draft ignore the text we moved it into one to try and sort everything out. I don't like the text being red. Also in this draft we have added in the strip on the side (there is no text on it yet, that will come in later drafts). Personally I feel it needs to be a bit thicker to include the text.

 Here we have created another layer on photo shop of the head, we have put it in the same place as the image below however so it covers the bottom of the S for Set. This look really effective, and makes it stand out more. It gives the magazine front cover a sort of 3D effect. We have also moved the text around however it is still very plain. The more we play around with the image the better it is looking. It is not directly in the centre.

 Here we have taken the magazine we deconstructed before as inspiration. We have tried to make the text look better and more fun. By adding the yellow box makes it stand out more. We have chosen the yellow because it is in the second image along in the strip down the bottom.

 In this draft of the magazine front cover, we have added in a second box of a different colour. We have chosen this image from the 5th and 6th one across in the strip. The box is slightly too big however that can be adjusted later on in the draft process.  At the moment we are trying to get the basic draft done. The text is getting better and more fun. The reader will ant to read it looking like this, however there is still too much.

There is a slight change between these two drafts. The size of the coloured boxes. We have moved them back slightly to be a tight fit with the lettering. This makes it look a lot neater and professional. This is the only change from this draft even though it is a minor one is has changed a lot about the look.

 As you can see here we have changed the colour of the side column. We have also made it thicker so it is easier to put the text in it. By changing the colour of the side bar to the yellow we changed the colour of the yellow box to match the other two and made it that grey colour of the 5th picture in.

 Here we have added in some text to the side bar. The text written is as follows: Studio Set 68 (this is the issue number and title of the magazine) Horror special ( this is because our trailer is of the horror genre and we want the magazine to tie in with it and be a horror genre to.) and Let me in ( this could either be direct speech to the reader or it could be the title of a new horror film.) We have done the dots on the side in the grey colour to tie in with the grey of the boxes and we have done the writing in a dark blue because it stands out against the mustard yellow.

Here we have added in another puff down the bottom. This is to attract the reader more and to advertise another aspect of our magazine on the front cover. We have done it in a circle because we want the other puff to be the main focus. This is our final draft for our magazine.
