This image has been taken from the very beginning of my Trailer, as I have found there generally is always a certification alert whether it be from the British Board of Film Classification or one of the coloured banners, as it signifies the target audience of the film. – In my case I have chosen to use one of the coloured banners. Audio is just as important as visual, and I had found that non-diegetic music tended to kick in before anything was heard diegetically to anchor the genre of the film, I chose to do just this, by introducing the first piece of soundtrack for my trailer straight away, in order to set atmosphere and set the pace of the trailer. Voice overs are also commonly used, however only for a short amount of time to introduce a character. Stereotypically a deep male voice is used to create a sense of tension in the air and atmosphere.
Because thriller trailers use quick paced editing along with various camera angles to keep the viewers of the clip enticed, I too decided this would be something I needed to involve within my trailer as it added fluidity and pieced the trailer together.
With our media products we have tried to follow some forms and conventions however we have also challenged some because they didn't work for what we wanted.
Our trailer follows forms and conventions by not giving away too much information. We have only given away the vital information to make it make sense. Also we have put the credits at the end, and the green screen at the beginning.
Our magazine does this by having the title at the top with the mast head. We have challenged it because we have put the bar code at the top of the page with the price and the issue number. This is normally down the bottom of the magazine, but it didn't work there so we put it at the top so it doesn't stand out too much.
The film poster we have followed, by having the title at the top with the release date. Also we have followed the forms by having all the credits at the bottom of the poster. There isn't a specific place for the release date however, normally its either the top or the bottom. We took this into consideration and found out it looked a lot better at the top of the poster. Also we could link it into the title, so this is the reason for that. Teaser trailers are often described as being short with only a couple of clips to tell the narrative. We challenged this convention by using lots of different short sharp clips which more on quickly. We didnt want to give to much a way and also for horror this adds a tension to the trailer. However we did keep the length short (1:26) to keep the adience entices and interested. Also by keeping it short it makes them want to see more. We put just enough information in this trailer without giving away everything or too much and giving away the whole story line.
We also challenged forms and conventions because normally the protagonist character is a male and the antagonist is a female. In our trailer we have done it so that both characters are bad in a way becuase the male kills the woman * by accident* and the woman tries to get revenge, so we have done it the other way round slightly.
Within our trailer we have created a juxtaposition with the idea of having a house wife and a happy family in a horror film. However we kept the convention of having violence in horror films and making it spooky with our mirror scene when the mother just appears in the mirror even though you cant see her in shot.
